What is a liquid coating?
Liquid coating is one of the many forms of coatings available at the moment. Liquid coatings exist as waterborne and solvent borne systems. The two types of liquid paints have a similar basic recipe. They contain:
Liquid coating vs. powder painting
Liquid painting is still accepted in the industrial world, however conventional liquid painting is becoming less common because powder coating is virtually harmless to the environment. The liquid coatings on the other hand will emit Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s). Liquid coatings do have some advantages over powder coating for industrial applications. Mainly due to the following facts:
- liquid coatings do not form a thick coat
- liquid coatings are less time consuming when working with specialized paint colors
- Powder coating requires high initial investment
- Powder coating cannot be applied on surfaces of any size (must fit in oven)
For industries liquid coating is thus, cheaper and more flexible option. Nevertheless, when the products are standard size and investing is feasible, powder coatings are more popular.
Liquid coatings are more popular among consumers due to their better availability and simpler application methods. Liquid coatings can be applied with roller and brush. Therefore, they are ideal for home decorators. They also do not require machinery. Consequently, they are used by professional painters for on site applications in powder’s stead.
How to apply?
The applications for decorating are mainly done with a brush and a roller. It’s also a possibility to use wet spray applications. Industrial applications, for their part, include wet spraying, curtain coating, pouring applications and dip coating.
Surfaces and objects often painted at home are:
- Window frames
When you are choosing a coating, make sure that it is suitable for the substrate material and environment (interior/exterior).
Coating in India
In India high temperatures during the summer are highly expected due to lack of rains and high solar radiation. Therefore it is advised to apply a heat reflective roof coating for beating the heat indoors. There are multiple coating companies in India.
